When Benji, a therapy dog, was younger, he suffered from anxiety. Russel Teck, Benji’s owner felt bad for his dog, so he thought of an activity that could help him deal with his anxiety. The idea that crossed Teck’s mind was to make an agility course for Benji. However, the lack of space in his yard made it impossible for him to pursue the plan.
Teck did some research to determine the perfect job that suits Benji. Finally, he considered enrolling Benji in therapy dog training. The training lasted for one and a half years. Benji took a Therapy Dogs International test, and he was able to pass on his first try. It was an indicator that he was ready to serve people in need.
When he became a certified therapy dog, Teck got more creative. He wanted to formally introduce Benji as a therapy dog, so he created business cards on his computer and printed them out. The front of the card showed Benji’s photo and some necessary information about him. The back of the card contained Benji’s additional details, such as the names of his furry siblings and his birthday.
Benji gives his business card to the people he serves. A lot of people knew what he has done to help them. Some people also told Teck that they keep Benji’s business card in their wallet or on areas where they could easily see it. Benji’s mission is to cheer people up, and he was doing a great job.
He visited hospitals, high schools, nursing homes, and funeral homes. Since 2014, Benji has already visited more than 1000 places. His visits wouldn’t be complete without making people smile. Teck is glad to receive all the positive feedback from people. Even though Benji suffered from anxiety before, he was able to make other people happy.
He serves as a blessing to people who needed a little encouragement when the going gets rough. Teck is also proud to be called Benji’s dad because of his furry friend’s amazing transformation.
