A skinny dog named Peanut wandered the busy streets of Dumaguete in the Philippines. Due to the dog’s thinness, she also lost almost all of his hair and suffered from mange. With mange all over her body, Peanut would often scratch her body, leading to patches and inflammation throughout her frail body.
Fortunately, volunteers from the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary rescued the poor pup in June 2020. During this time, the country is grappling with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It was difficult for Peanut to scavenge for food because the usually busy streets became a ghost town.
When the sanctuary’s volunteers attempted to rescue the pup, Peanut did not show any signs of aggression. Instead, she willingly joined the volunteers because she knew she would be in safe hands. When the dog arrived at the sanctuary, the first thing that the volunteers did was gave Peanut food to eat and water to drink.
After feeding the dog, the volunteers gave the dog a good bath before treating her wounds. When the veterinarians checked on the pup, they thought that Peanut was already old. However, upon checking the other parts of the dog’s body, they estimated that Peanut is around eight months old.
The positive developments did not end there for Peanut because two regular foster parents of the sanctuary decided to provide her a temporary home. Mike and Joy willingly volunteered to be the foster parents of the poor dog. The dog will be under their care until Peanut recovers and finds a new home.
For now, the volunteers are working hard to give the dog the kind of treatment she deserves. This includes making the dog feel loved and wanted since Peanut never experienced these things before. The volunteers likewise hope that the dog will thrive in the new home she has.
